History

Artane, or "Artaine" in Irish (Ard Aidhin), means "height of the sloe bush." The area’s history dates back to early medieval times, reflecting its ancient roots in Irish culture. Monastic Lands: During the medieval period, Artane was largely agricultural and consisted of lands owned by the church. It was part of the lands controlled by the Priory of All Hallows, which later became part of Trinity College Dublin.
Artane Castle: While the original castle no longer stands, the area retains historical significance through the Artane Castle Shopping Centre.
Artane Band: The Artane Boys' Band, established in the late 19th century, remains a significant cultural institution. The band, now known as the Artane Band, continues to perform and has expanded to include both boys and girls.
